Rutgers University Upgrades Lighting In 15 Buildings
Public Energy Solutions Helps Produce Annual Energy Cost Savings of $351,500

Goal:
Upgrade the lighting systems in 15 academic, administrative and recreational buildings at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. The primary existing light sources were F40/T12 fluorescent lamps with energy saving and standard magnetic ballasts. A number of old “egg crate” fixtures also needed replacing.

Results:

Public Energy Solutions:

	Retrofitted all existing T12 lamp fixtures with high-efficiencyT8 lamps and replaced magnetic ballasts with energy-saving electronic ballasts.
	Upgraded many fluorescent fixtures with optical reflectors, which reduce the number of lamps by 50 percent.
	Installed 58 upgraded motor drives.
	The overall reduction in electrical demand was about 52 percent, with approximate annual savings of $361,500.

Goal:

Identify opportunities to capture energy savings, improve lighting quality and reduce maintenance costs at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J.

Results:

Public Energy Solutions:

	Performed a detailed energy audit in 20 buildings.
	Upgraded existing F40/T12 lamp and magnetic ballast systems to state-of-the-art, high-efficiency F32/T8/800 series with electronic ballasts, utilizing aesthetically pleasing optical reflectors in selected locations.

The PES-financed upgrade provided TCNJ with approximate annual savings of $309,000.
