Saving the world—one building at a time
PES was contracted by Con Edison to help cut energy consumption in high load areas of Manhattan and Westchester County by giving building owners financial incentives to replace outdated lighting or mechanical systems with more energy-efficient alternatives.

Through our program, PES and Con Edison will spend significant amounts of money to reduce demand on the region’s already strained electric grid for the summer of 2007 and beyond.

PES — A history of energy conservation

Public Energy Solutions instituted Operation Kill-A-Watt in 2005 as a series of one-day events that enlisted thousands of businesses to reduce their energy consumption by adjusting their thermostats, turning off non-essential lighting and taking part in other energy-saving measures for a few hours during peak usage times.

The program is now a long-term initiative designed to have permanent effects on the Northeast’s energy grid. PES’ track record in that area is already well established.

The company:

During 2006, New York City businesses achieved approximately $5 million in annual energy cost savings.
An excess of $60 million over the life of the measures.

Over the next 10 years, the combined electric bill reductions from the Operation Kill-A- Watt program will save New Yorkers more than $230 million. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has asked all New Yorkers to curb their energy usage and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz recently endorsed Operation Kill-A-Watt, urging all New Yorkers to take proactive steps to do their part.
