NEW YORK CITY BUSINESSES CAPITALIZE ON OPERATION KILL-A-WATT
Local Businesses Share Results after Taking Advantage of Free Lighting Upgrades and Cash Back Through Con Edison Energy Initiative

New York City, NY – March 29, 2007 — Three businesses have released figures today detailing their energy savings as a result of signing up for Operation Kill-A-Watt. This energy saving initiative was recently launched in the New York City area by Con Edison and Public Energy Solutions (PES), a regionally recognized lighting and energy services company, with the goal of reducing power consumption and helping building owners achieve energy cost savings by making valuable, environmentally-responsible changes to their buildings.

Jetro Cash & Carry, a wholesale grocery, foodservice and catering supply warehouse, Belmet Products, a metal stamping company and Singalli Collision, an auto body shop, have all significantly reduced their energy usage after receiving significantly low-cost or free lighting upgrades through Operation Kill-A-Watt. The combined power reduction resulting from the upgrades provided to these three Brooklyn businesses equals 1,171,870 kilowatt hours-- an amount equivalent to the power used by over 100 average residences, permanently eliminated from the New York City power grid.

“We’re using much less energy and we’re glad to be doing our part to prevent blackouts and brownouts in the area,” said Richard Kirschner, Chief Operating Officer of Jetro Cash & Carry.

The annual dollar savings for Jetro Cash & Carry is projected at a whopping $125,177, with savings being immediately reflected in their monthly Con Edison bills. Operation Kill-A-Watt paid for 100% of the lighting upgrades performed for Belmet Products and Singalli Collision. Belmet Products is projected to receive an annual savings of $5,672 on their energy bills, while PES calculated that Singalli Collision will receive $2,325 in annual energy savings.

Operation Kill-A-Watt’s main goal is to reduce energy consumption in targeted load areas of Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Westchester County. Buildings in designated zip codes that are currently using 25 or more incandescent light bulbs in their buildings can sign up to receive free Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) through Operation Kill-A-Watt (table lamps are excluded). PES also helps building owners and facility professionals save energy with cutting-edge HVAC and mechanical load reduction technologies.

Public Energy Solutions is a regionally recognized lighting and energy services company and is a former division of PSEG Energy Technologies. A proud partner in the EPA Energy Star Change a Light program, the privately held firm helps building owners and facility professionals save energy with cutting-edge load reduction technologies. PES was contracted by Con Edison for this exclusive program to reduce demand on the City’s power grid in targeted neighborhoods and load areas. This past summer, major black-outs and brown-outs plagued Queens and other boroughs throughout the City. Programs like this reduce peak demand which can help avoid power interruptions.
